Garry Vincent Featherstone

Garry Vincent Featherstone was born on November 23, 1955 in Santa Monica Ca to the proud parents Glenn and Louise Featherstone. Garry was the second born child of six children. He was the second leader in charge with his sister Cheryl being number one. Garry attended Broadway Elementary, Mark Twain Middle School and Venice High School. The City of Venice was a treasure and home for Garry. As a child Garry started playing baseball at the age of 9 under his father Glenn Featherstone. He became the BAT BOY for the Little League Dodgers, where his father was the Manager. His father needed a catcher, so he took the time to teach him how to catch behind the plate and he became of the best. For three seasons he played at Oakwood Park with his brothers for his father who was a pillar in the Venice and Santa Monica community.

As an adult Garry became infatuated with politics, law and community outreach. Garry took pride in becoming an advocate for the homeless in Venice Ca. Garry wrote an article in the BeachHead News Paper on February 8, 2023 expressing how the homeless are in need of more than temporary housing and the bigger problem is mental health and drug addiction. He expressed that the motels should be equipped with Professional Drug Programs, and Mental Health Doctors. As Garry was changing his life around and donating his time to outreach work. Garry decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and started his own BBQ business named ‘Real BBQ’ where he served meals 7 days a week to the homeless along with food catering. Garry was a walking law book who can tell you any and everything about the judicial system, he was someone who has beat cases on his own and has helped others who were wrongfully convicted. Garry would be the first to make a Facebook post to inform his friends and family on what is going on in the Venice Community and around the world, many would call him the Mayor.

Garry was a leader, a free spirit, adventurous, outspoken, a go-getter and most of all a protector to his loved ones. He moved to his own beat, a leader who traveled in the path carved out by him, he ‘led’ himself. Never one to complain, he dealt with his challenges head on.
